Pōmare I

Pōmare I, born in the year seventeen forty-two, was a pivotal figure in the history of Tahiti, renowned for his role as the unifier and first king of the island. His reign marked the establishment of the Pōmare dynasty and the Kingdom of Tahiti, a significant development that took place between the years seventeen eighty-eight and seventeen ninety-one.

During his rule, Pōmare I was instrumental in shaping the political landscape of Tahiti. He is particularly noted for his leadership during the tumultuous period surrounding the mutiny on the Bounty in seventeen eighty-nine, a historical event that brought international attention to the region.

In seventeen ninety-one, Pōmare I abdicated the throne but continued to exert influence as the guardian regent for his successor, Pōmare II, until the year eighteen hundred and three. This period of regency allowed him to maintain a significant role in the governance of Tahiti, ensuring stability during his successor's minority.
