Preston Manning

Preston Manning, born on June tenth, nineteen forty-two, is a distinguished retired Canadian politician, writer, management consultant, and businessperson. He is best known as the founder and sole leader of the Reform Party of Canada, a significant political entity that emerged in the late twentieth century. This party evolved into the Canadian Alliance in two thousand, which later merged with the Progressive Conservative Party to create the Conservative Party of Canada in two thousand three.

Representing the Calgary Southwest constituency, Manning served in the Canadian House of Commons from nineteen ninety-three until his retirement in two thousand two. His political career peaked when he led the Official Opposition from nineteen ninety-seven to two thousand. Manning's political journey began in nineteen eighty-seven when he and a group of associates established the Reform Party, which quickly gained traction, winning its first seat in nineteen eighty-nine and achieving remarkable success in the nineteen ninety-three federal election with fifty-two seats.

In the subsequent nineteen ninety-seven federal election, the party's influence grew, securing sixty seats and becoming the Official Opposition. Despite this success, Manning faced challenges in winning ridings in Central and Atlantic Canada, which hindered his aspirations for the prime ministership. Following the transition to the Canadian Alliance in two thousand, Manning lost the leadership election to Stockwell Day but remained an active member of parliament until his retirement.

Even after stepping down from his political role, Manning has continued to engage in Conservative Party politics and campaigns. He is recognized as a pioneer of the green conservative movement in Canada. Upon retiring, he founded the Manning Foundation for Democratic Education and the Manning Centre for Building Democracy, both dedicated to promoting Canadian democracy in line with conservative values.
