Princess Thyra of Denmark

Princess Thyra of Denmark, born on September twenty-ninth, eighteen fifty-three, was the youngest daughter and fifth child of Christian IX of Denmark and Louise of Hesse-Kassel. Her lineage placed her among the most notable European aristocrats of her time, connecting her to various royal families across the continent.

In eighteen seventy-eight, Thyra entered into a significant union with Ernest Augustus, the exiled heir to the Kingdom of Hanover. This marriage was marked by the political turmoil of the era, as the Kingdom of Hanover had been annexed by Prussia in eighteen sixty-six. Consequently, Thyra spent the majority of her life in exile alongside her husband in Austria, navigating the complexities of royal life away from her homeland.
