Queen Sonja of Norway

Queen Sonja of Norway, born on July fourth, nineteen thirty-seven, is a prominent figure in the Norwegian monarchy as the wife of King Harald V. She holds the distinction of being Norway's first queen consort since Queen Maud, who was married to King Haakon VII and passed away in nineteen thirty-eight. Sonja's journey to royalty began with a nine-year courtship with Harald, during which they kept their relationship private due to the societal implications of her commoner status.

Upon their marriage in nineteen sixty-eight, Sonja transitioned from a commoner to crown princess, and later, upon her husband's ascension to the throne in nineteen ninety-one, she became queen. This marked a significant moment in Norwegian history, as she was the first queen consort in over half a century. Together, they have two children: Princess Märtha Louise and Crown Prince Haakon.

As queen, Sonja is actively involved in various charitable organizations, holding patronage for up to fifteen groups. Her commitment to humanitarian efforts is exemplified by her role as Vice President of the Norwegian Red Cross from nineteen eighty-seven to nineteen ninety. In two thousand five, she made history as the first queen to visit Antarctica, showcasing her adventurous spirit.
