Sayako Kuroda, born on April 18, 1969, is a distinguished figure in Japan, known for her multifaceted roles as an aristocrat, ornithologist, researcher, and high priest. She is the youngest child and only daughter of Emperor Emeritus Akihito and Empress Emerita Michiko, and she is the younger sister of the current Emperor of Japan, Naruhito.
Formerly known as Sayako, Princess Nori, she held the title of Nori-no-miya until her marriage to Yoshiki Kuroda on November 15, 2005. This significant life event led her to relinquish her imperial title and depart from the Japanese imperial family, in accordance with Article 12 of the Imperial Household Law.
In her current role, Kuroda serves as the Supreme Priestess of the Ise Grand Shrine, embodying the spiritual traditions of Shintoism. Her dedication to her duties reflects her commitment to both her heritage and her personal beliefs.
Following her marriage, she received a payment of approximately one million dollars, marking a new chapter in her life as she transitioned from royal duties to a more private existence while continuing her contributions to society through her research and ornithological pursuits.
