Umm al-Banin

Umm al-Banin, a prominent figure in Islamic history, was born into the Banu Kilab tribe, part of the larger Qays confederation. Her lineage and tribal affiliation positioned her within a significant cultural context of her time.

After the passing of Ali's first wife, Fatima, the daughter of the Islamic prophet Muhammad, Umm al-Banin married Ali. This union marked a pivotal moment in her life, as she became the mother of four sons, each of whom would later meet a tragic fate.

Her sons were killed in the Battle of Karbala in the year six hundred eighty, a defining event in Shia Islam that solidified Umm al-Banin's legacy as a symbol of sacrifice and maternal strength. Her life and the lives of her sons continue to resonate deeply within the Shia community.
