Wonjong of Goryeo

Wonjong of Goryeo, born Wang Chŏng on April 5, 1219, ascended to the throne as the twenty-fourth ruler of the Goryeo dynasty in 1260. His reign, which lasted until July 23, 1274, was marked by significant political challenges and a brief interruption by King Yeongjong in 1269, whose legitimacy remains a topic of scholarly debate.

During his rule, Wonjong faced the complexities of governance amid the shifting dynamics of power within the kingdom.
