Desiderata of the Lombards

Desiderata of the Lombards, born in the year seven hundred fifty-four, was a notable queen consort of the Franks. As one of the four daughters of Desiderius, the King of the Lombards, and his wife Ansa, she was positioned at the intersection of two powerful kingdoms.

In the year seven hundred seventy, Desiderata's marriage to Charlemagne was orchestrated as a strategic alliance aimed at strengthening ties between the Lombards and Francia. This union was also intended to politically isolate Charlemagne's brother, Carloman I, who governed the central territories of Francia.

Despite the significance of this marriage, it was short-lived, lasting only one year. There are no records of any children resulting from this union, leaving Desiderata's legacy primarily tied to her role in the political machinations of her time.
