Françoise Marie de Bourbon

Françoise Marie de Bourbon, born on May fourth, sixteen seventy-seven, was the youngest illegitimate daughter of the illustrious King Louis XIV of France and his official mistress, Madame de Montespan. Her lineage placed her in the heart of the French aristocracy, yet her life was marked by the complexities of her birthright.

At the tender age of fourteen, Françoise Marie entered into a marriage with her first cousin, Philippe d'Orléans, who would later become the regent of France during the minority of Louis XV. This union not only solidified her position within the royal family but also linked her to the future of French governance.

Despite her noble connections, Françoise Marie wielded little political power. Her involvement in the ill-fated Cellamare Conspiracy in seventeen eighteen highlighted her limited influence, as the plot aimed to replace her husband as regent with her brother, Louis Auguste, Duke of Maine.

Françoise Marie was a mother to eight children, and through two of them, she became the ancestress of several prominent Roman Catholic monarchs across Europe in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries, including those of Belgium, Italy, Portugal, Spain, and France. Her legacy, therefore, extends beyond her immediate family, intertwining with the histories of various European thrones.
